We need to train our children from a young age to appreciate and participate in the worship service. To do this, they need to be in the worship service. Church services give us the opportunity to come into the presence of God with other people of God, both young and old. As children observe and join believers in worship, they learn to focus on God and see His greatness. However, little ones often have trouble sitting and listening for the length of the service.
The church notebooks for younger children provide parents with helpful suggestions to prepare children to understand and participate in the worship service. The My Church Journal has a note to encourage young people as they learn how to worship God.
Preschool Resource
The My First Church Notebook: Let the Little Children Come is intended for three- and four-year old children to use during church services to help them focus on God.
Four pages each week (29 weeks) include:
- A memory verse page with a picture to color.
- A coloring page emphasizing one of 12 biblical themes.
- A border page to draw a picture of something the child hears about from the sermon.
- An additional page for drawing or writing words.
Elementary Resource
My Church Notebooks: Come Into His Presence (Volume 1 and 2) guide elementary aged children to participate in the service. The notebooks teach them to actively listen to the sermon, take notes, recognize key points, and ask questions. In response to what they hear, children can determine what God wants them to think, be, or do. With God’s help, children can discover who He is, understand more of His Word, and grow in their love for the truth. My Church Notebooks help children to concentrate on God as they come into His presence.
My Church Notebook Details:
- The notebook is designed for 1st-6th grade students to use during the church service and for application at home.
- Children are provided with seven prompts or questions to answer.
- They are given additional space for further notes or drawings (for 26 sermons).
- A guide at the beginning teaches children the value of being able to attend church with their parents, gives suggestions on what they can do to prepare for attending the service, and provides instructions on how to use their notebook during the service.
- Borders and icons in the notebooks are designed with themes relating to either creation (Volume 1) or the life of Jesus and His parables (Volume 2). These themes cycle through the book, reminding children of our great Creator or great Savior Jesus as they listen and take notes during the sermon.
5th through 8th Grade Resource
My Church Journal: Let Us Worship and Bow Down was created to help children in 5th through 8th grades get more out of the church service and the sermon. Simple practices, like taking notes on the sermon, can help them to not only actively listen, but also make it easier to review what they have heard, ponder it during the week, and apply God’s Word practically to their lives.
In time, they will have a record of their spiritual journey through the preaching of the Word and their interaction with God as they ponder His greatness and worth.
Inside you will find:
- Suggestions to help before and during the service
- Instructions on how to use the journal in church and at home
- Four pages for each week (26 weeks) to record notes, reactions, special verses, thoughts to share with others, etc.

“What a benefit there is when children witness their mother or father singing with conviction, praying in reverence, listening intently to the sermon, or receiving the Lord’s Supper in joy. In these moments a child witnesses the importance of faith and worship. There are few greater encouragements to a child’s faith then seeing their parents worship God with reverence and joy.”
