Prayer Tools

The Lord knows that we need help to pray. That is why He taught His disciples how to pray and gave all believers His Spirit, so we would be able to pray even when we don’t feel able. Prayer does not change God; it changes us by revealing our sinful hearts, and it allows us to know God’s will, purposes and, most importantly, Himself. By prayer we get to know our Heavenly Father and learn to trust Him more with the cares of this life.

The intergenerational study Lord, Teach Us to Pray helps us study the discipline of prayer. Prayer is not a formula to follow; it is fellowship with our Lord. We offer a Family Devotional Guide designed for use in conjunction with this study, but you can also use it separately. The 13-week devotional provides six days of devotional ideas per week, plus ideas for a weekly Family Night Activity. Scripture references, a key verse, and key themes are provided at the start of each week to set the tone, along with a lesson summary and important “points to ponder.”

Each day’s devotional portion includes Scripture and questions to deepen biblical understanding and promote personal application. Numerous prayer stories and other prayer tools complete the guide, making it a valuable prayer tool for any Christian family or individual. This guide has been prepared to encourage families to gather around the Word of God daily in a simple act of faith—reading God’s Word, discussing it, and praying that God will cause His truth to penetrate the hearts of the hearers. This is also a great way to start a tradition of regular family devotions.

Please take advantage of the free ACTS Prayer Tool below, taken from the Family Devotional Guide, so you can apply these truths to your children as “you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise” (Deuteronomy 6:7).
