“Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;" Daniel 2:20-21
This is the first passage we’ll memorize with Fighter Verses in 2025. Providentially, it’s a recap of what many watched unfold around the world in 2024. Isn’t it comforting to know that God is directing the rise and fall of every world leader?
One of the benefits of memorizing Scripture is that the Holy Spirit brings verses to mind that fit the circumstances of our lives. It was far better to have Daniel 2:20-21 strengthening my heart with assurance that God’s will would be done, regardless of what I was seeing as I scrolled political headlines. In every season, God’s sovereignty is what gives us hope.
Another benefit of Scripture memory is how it guards us against succumbing to the flood of information that seeks to train our thoughts in a worldly direction. What better way to spend your time in the new year than memorizing verses with other believers?
Of the many goals and plans you’re making for the year ahead, how will you make Bible memory a priority? Andrew Davis, author of How to Memorize Scripture for Life, advises reading the verse out loud 10 times, then saying it without looking 10 times. He’s known not only for memorizing verses, or even chapters, but whole books of the Bible.
Fighter Verses has long recommended his approach to memorizing and, more importantly, retaining the verses you hide in your heart. Our Fighter Verses app is designed for ongoing daily and weekly review that makes long-term retention possible.
Start the new year strong by committing to memorize Scripture. You can invite fellow church members and friends, as well as a spouse or children, to join you. We’ve made it easy by creating the free Fighter Verses Guide to Scripture Memory. Sign up for this download and each Sunday we’ll email you our devotional about that week’s passage. Authors include DesiringGod’s Jon Bloom, New Testament scholar Thomas Schreiner, professor and author Bruce Ware, Bible teacher Keri Folmar, as well as pastors, lay leaders, and more.
The treasures in this year’s verses will anchor our faith (Psalm 121), instruct us about God’s unchanging nature (Numbers 23:19), orient our thinking about money (Hebrews 13:5-6), and lead us to worship (Lamentations 321-23)—just just to name a few.
Memorize with us in January and you will be 52 passages richer by the end of the year.
There’s no better way to spend your time than storing up God’s Word in your heart. If you’re new to Fighter Verses, download your free Fighter Verses Guide to Scripture Memory. We hope it will help you and encourage those you love to join you in this essential spiritual discipline.
