Psalm 78 Day

Psalm 78 Day

Psalm 78 is just as relevant to this generation as it was to the generation that first heard it centuries ago. “Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth!” Asaph calls out to begin Psalm 78. In the next seven verses Asaph reminds God’s people of what their fathers have told them and calls them not to “hide them from their children” but to “tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD” and to teach children “so that they should set their hope in God.”

What a tremendous calling for this generation towards the next generation. As a way to incline this generation to meditate and act on these words for the good of the next generation, we want to encourage you to mark July 8 (7/8) as a day to focus on Psalm 78.

A Proclamation

If we were to announce Psalm 78 Day with a formal proclamation like presidents, governors, and mayors sometimes do, it would go like this:

Whereas God, according to Psalm 78:5 established a testimony and entrusted His people with the responsibility and privilege of passing it on to their children

Whereas we resolve, according to Psalm 78:4, to tell the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and His might, and the wonders that He has done

Whereas our vision and earnest prayer is that the next generations know, honor, and treasure God, setting their hope in Jesus Christ alone, so that they, according to Psalm 78:7, will set their hope in God and live as faithful disciples for the glory of God

Whereas we are committed to fulfilling the Psalm78 mandate by inspiring and equipping the church and the home for the discipleship of the next generation

Whereas Psalm 78 is represented in our name and forms the foundation for our mission and vision as an organization

Whereas we desire every Christian to be reminded of the high and holy calling we have to declare the whole counsel of God to the next generation

Now, therefore, I, David Michael, Executive Director of Truth78, do hereby proclaim July 8th as

International Psalm 78 Day

and I urge every child of God and follower of Jesus Christ to recognize and participate in its observance.
