All I Want for Christmas

All I Want for Christmas

The older I get, the more my family and friends find me impossible to shop for. There are few things that I want or need, and what I really want most Amazon doesn’t offer. What tops my wish list is for the next generation to be rooted and grounded in God’s Word. Pursuing biblical literacy in our churches and homes is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children.

Providing for parents and ministry leaders

For more than two decades, Truth78 has been actively encouraging the Church to go beyond mere programming and, in partnership with parents, pursue biblical literacy with a more intentional, systematic, discipleship-oriented strategy. The aim is not merely to promote knowledge of the Bible but knowledge of the God of the BibleHis works, His will, His ways, His wisdom, and all His glorious attributes. Biblically literate people are more likely to adopt biblical ways of thinking and behaving, having their desires and perspectives shaped and influenced by the Bible. God’s Word offers an ever-present, infinite source of wisdom and counsel to guide them through the challenges of life.

With God’s help, this is the path to raising a more doctrinally grounded, God-centered, Christ-exalting, biblically-literate generation that we trust will glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Like Paul said of Timothy, we want to be able to say that our children have been acquainted “from childhood” with God’s Word, which is “breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:15-16). We don’t want them to be “tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine” (Ephesians 4:14). We want them to be “wise for salvation” and “complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:15, 17) because “faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17).

There are specific strategies in which we are investing that are focused on the next generation going beyond knowing the truth to loving the truth, embracing the truth, and resting all hope and confidence in God:

  • Providing churches with a full scope and sequence of curriculum that does not shrink from declaring the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27).
  • Developing tools that equip parents for their discipleship efforts at home.
  • Building a network of church leaders who share our doctrinal and theological convictions for comprehensive discipleship, while providing them with training and resources to succeed in their ministry efforts.
  • Extending the reach of this vision internationally by translating materials into the top 30 languages of the world and distributing them through global networks to reach the nations.

Partnering side by side

What I want, especially in this season of life and ministry, is for my children, your children, and the children growing up inside and outside our churches to walk in the truth, finish the race, and receive the prize that awaits all who are in Christ. Nothing on my wish list can compare to the next generation being rooted and grounded in God’s Word. This is one of the best and most enduring investments of my resources and time. There are expanding opportunities in our ministry to serve churches and homes around the globe, and generous partner funding provides the means for us to do this without cost to them. Few things give our team more joy than when others invest financially with a heart and passion to work together to teach our children the testimony that we have been given.

I recently sat down with Dan Claassen, Director of Ministry Expansion, to talk more about our ongoing commitment to give the greatest gift to future generations and why your partnership in the mission matters. I encourage you to listen and consider how you can join us in pursuing biblical literacy.
